Canary Wharf is a business district in London. Although not known for being a tourist site, visit and you’ll have a chance to get up close and personal to one of the most modern and iconic skylines in London. You’ll find over 300 shops, restaurants and cafes offering fine dining alongside a cinema at one of the newest shopping malls in the city, Crossrail Place.

Originally built as a secondary financial district to support the City of London, the regenerated area contains the 2nd tallest building in the UK at One Canada Square, along with a large amount of office space that is home to numerous major banks, media organisations and service firms. You’ll also find serviced apartments and a handful of hotels.

Located in the area known as the Isle of Dogs, this area was once known as the West India Docks and was used to land sugar and lime imports from Jamaica and other West Indian islands. Now you’ll find exciting additions such as the Cable Car, world famous Olympic Park and the remarkable 02 Arena in addition to the London City Airport. Not bad for an area that was once derelict.

If you head over to Canary Wharf pier you may have the chance to enjoy boat parties or even hop on the river bus to be free of traffic jams as you travel through London on a river boat.

When it comes to food and refreshment, you might want to take a chilled glass of beer overlooking the river Thames or visit one of the fabulous eateries with delicious foods and memorable atmospheres. If you’re interested in times gone by, you’ll find restaurants overlooking the Old Jamaican Sugar Docks.

With regards to travel, the Docklands Light Railway, otherwise known as the DLR will take you through the centre of the area. Otherwise you can get there on the Jubilee Line, by bus or on the river.
