More information about this area…
Running between Kensington Gardens and the Old Brompton Road is the regal and affluent Gloucester Road.
Originally running through a rather marshy area where pigs were kept, the road was once known as Hog Moore Lane. It changed its name in 1850 after the well-to-do Maria, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh built a house there around 1805.
The road is now also home to several embassies and consulates including those of Bahrani, Zambia and Korea. Avid television watchers may also be aware of it being the fictional home of the main character of the Rumpole of the Bailey series.
Offering a mixture of both affordable and expensive hotels, it’s easy to reach the impressive museums of South Kensington from here. The shops of Kensington High Street are also nearby and central London is just 15-20 minutes away by bus or tube.
Although the road offers some standard shopping opportunities such as Waitrose, Boots, a couple of restaurants and some fast food options it also hosts some delightful boutiques in addition to a deli and a handful of pubs. Walk along the southern end and you’ll find a pretty tree lined road with expensive houses.
Your best bet is to take a walk down its length to experience the full street, and if you’re driving then take note that you cannot turn right from Gloucester Road onto the A4. Parking is free after 8pm at the northern end on weekdays, on Saturday afternoons after 1.30pm and for the entirety of Sundays.
We are London’s number 1 service for authentic Japanese style nuru massage. We love nothing more than covering guys in slippery nuru gel.
